I look forward to starting our year together! Parents and Guardians are encouraged to look at our class website to stay informed about what is happening in our classroom. I will post on the "Calendar/Reminders" section at the end of the week (Friday) to share some of the highlights of our week and I will also include important dates of upcoming events. As we progress through the year, I will share resources for you and your child to explore together. This class website is your go to for information about what is happening in our class and for important reminders.

"Me" in a bag
I talked with our class about the brown paper bag I sent home. This is an opportunity for your child to bring in photos, drawings or small artifacts about themselves. Please discuss with your child what they would like to bring in, just make your it fits in the bag. Students can bring these bags in anytime next week...
Home Reading Routine
Students are encouraged to read independently or with an adult each day. As part of our home reading program I am also asking parents to read a-loud to their child. This can be from books you already have at home, books from our school library or books from the public library. Reading with young children is very important to support their learning and success in school. It is my expectation that everyday students are spending 20-30 minutes enjoying books with their families. I will soon be sending home reading books in the planner pouch for your child to read with you.
Reading Logs and Reading Key Chain
Every child in Division will be receiving a special reading key chain, which we will keep at school. Throughout the year, children will earn reading tags to add to their key chain. I will soon be sending a home reading log calendar to keep track of their reading. At the end of the month, please return their reading log/calendar to school. I will send a reminder as well :) Students will be able to fill out the log themselves, they just need to colour in the number, each day they read. Please don't do this for them, encourage your child to take initiative to do it themselves. Students will receive 2 new reading tags for their keychain at the end of the month for reading. I hope this small incentive will encourage them to practice reading at home and be proud of their accomplishments. At the end of the year, they will take their keychain home as a reminder of all the hard work they have accomplished this school year.
Friday Journal
Your child will soon be bringing a Friday Journal home, in their planner pouch on Fridays. This book is called our “Friday Journal” and students write in it every Friday afternoon in order to tell you about their favourite part of the school week. Please take a few minutes during the weekend to write us back (on the back of the page). In this response, you can write about anything; you can comment based on the content of our journal, on the quality, on our picture, our printing…anything you would like! Please send back the "Friday Journal" in the planner pocket on Mondays. This is a great way for you to participate in your child's learning experiences at school.
Birthdays
If you would like to send in a birthday treat for the class for your child, please just let me know. Please ensure it is nut free and does not need any prep (cutting).
Scholastic Reading Club
Each month I will send scholastic reading club flyers home with your child. These flyers are packed with great books to support emergent readers. If you would like to order, you can pay online or by cheque. Please do not send in cash.
Our Class Schedule:

Library Exchange: Tuesdays
Family reading/Math Games: Friday Morning! Please join us for reading and math games on Friday morning from 8:35 - 9:00. Family Reading will start on Friday September 20th
